Programme Outline

The programme combines various elements wich are outlined below.

Experiential modules
Overnight experimental moduleLEAD starts with a three day overnight experiential at Católica Porto Business School which is designed to build trust in the peer network. The experiential offers a mix og management training exercises and experience-based learning that explores the role of leadership. This allowes the participants to begin to reflect on their own leadership style in a safe environment and provides a framework to develop a personal development plan for them to work with for the duration of LEAD.
Action Learning Sets
Action LearningMany owner-managers have identified "feeling isolated" as a commom theme when running their own business. Action Learning is designed to overcome this isolation and is used as a platform to address real business concerns. Action Learning Sets involve a group of six to seven delegates addressing pertinent business issues in a confidential, non-competitive, trusting environment with the co-operation of like-minded people. Individual members of the set learn by exploring their own knowledge and experience and then deciding which actions to take to help resolve their business issues.
Action Learning develops critical thinking and reflection skills, insightfull questioning skills and active listening skills - all of which help owners-managers empower staff, improve delegations skills, promote a culture of critical reflection and ultimately help you to work on the business, not in the business.
Masterclasses and two modules
MasterclassesThe masterclass series has been designerd to challenge delegates, stimulate critical thinking and catalyse awareness. By sharing their experiences, speakers will enable you to reflect on your own leadership style and management skills. There are two themes for masterclasses: business growth and leadership.

Business Growth: These masterclasses are specifically designed to cover key areas of the business that meet the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises. The masterclasses will provide delegates with the tools to grow their business. They are delivered by academics who have an active interest in small businesses and practitioners who have led and grown businesses themselves.
Leadership: Leadership masterclasses are delivered by inspirational speakers who share their own leadership journeys.

The two modules taught in Porto, by Lancaster facultu, wil have the following themes: "Growing responible business: purpose, people and processes and Leading Change".
Online Forum
Online ForumThe LEAD online forum is a virtual environment that provides a confidential space for delegates to acess their peers, facilitators and the moderator when not physically together. It provides 24/7 access to information, resources and discussions, communicate relevant pieces of information and so on.
Business shadowing and exchanges
Business shadowingObservational learning is perhaps the most powerful process for acquiring information. The business shadowing and exchange element of LEAD has been developed to extend the observation process and to test the delegates' learning from the whole programme.
This element of LEAD provides an opportunity for you to learn from each other's organisationsM; learn about your own behaviour, learn about your own leadership style and your organisation through a fresh pair of eyes.

The process begins with a shadowing exercise during which participants will observe and reflect on the behaviour of their exchange partner in their place of work. This is followed up by a series of exchanges where participants will go into their partner's business and conduct a mini consultancy project on an agreed area.
