Keynote Speaker: Simon Deakin
Simon Deakin will be presenting the paper "Ex Machina Lex: The Limits of Legal Computability", co-authored with Christopher Markou. The paper is availabe here.
Simon Deakin is Director of the Centre for Business Research and a professor in the Faculty of Law at the University of Cambridge. He specialises in the economic and empirical study of law with particular reference to labour law, private law and company law. His published work has appeared in interdisciplinary journals including the Journal of Empirical Legal Studies and Law & Society Review and he is the author of monographs on labour market and corporate governance themes as well as textbook-treatises on tort law and labour law. He is currently researching the relationship between law, technological change, and inequality.

Book presentation by co-author Doron Teichman’
Doron Teichman is the Vice Dean and Jacob I. Berman Professor of Law at the Faculty of Law, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His spheres of interest include economic and behavioral analysis of law, empirical legal studies, and criminal law. Professor Teichman has taught at leading institutions such as Columbia, Michigan, Texas, and the Center for Transnational Legal Studies. He has authored numerous articles that were published in central American and Israeli law reviews, including, Michigan Law Review, Journal of Empirical Legal Studies, New York University Law Review, and Law & Society Review. His recent book, Behavioral Law and Economics (coauthored with Eyal Zamir) has been published by Oxford University Press.
Book discussion by Catarina Santos Botelho and Vasco Rodrigues
Catarina Santos Botelho is an Assistant Professor and Department Chair of Constitutional Law at Porto Faculty of Law at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa. She specializes in constitutional law and fundamental rights, more specifically on social rights enforcement, public policies and austerity, intergenerational justice, constitutional design, constitutional amendment, constitutional justice and international protection of human rights. She authored monographs on social rights in times of crises and fundamental rights protection, as well as several articles for national and international law journals. She is currently researching on how to bridge the empirical and the normative approach on constitutional amendments metrics.
Vasco Rodrigues is Executive Diretor of the Research Centre in Management and Applied Economics (CEGEA) at Católica Porto Business School, where he is associate professor. His research is mainly on Industrial Economics and Competition Policy. He has published in the International Journal of Industrial Economics, the Scandinavian Journal of Economics and other journals. He is also the author of monographs on Law & Economics, and Mergers and Acquisitions, among other themes. At CEGEA, he has been involved in over seventy consultancy projects for private businesses and public institutions.
