This programme is suited for professionals from a variety of educational and professional backgrounds who work in different sectors of activity. They have in common their work experience in the business world and the aim to upgrade or build management skills.

The Executive MBA is for managers and executives in companies or institutions who seek to upgrade their skills and meet the following entry requirements:

  • Holder of a recognised academic degree;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ professional experience;

    The programme runs once a month as follows:

    Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays from 8:30 am to 05:45 pm 
    Saturdays from 8:30 am to 01:00 pm 
    Complementary activities: Thursdays from 06:30 pm to 08:00 pm


    The aim of the Executive MBA programme is to allow participants to balance their personal and professional lives while immersing themselves more into the learning processes with as little impact on their work activity as possible.

    Students are therefore immersed in School activities during term time and are free to manage study and class preparation time on the remaining weekends. Between terms, they are divided in study groups and benefit from tutorial monitoring from the faculty.





    The Executive MBA programme consists of 3 blocks: 1) Starting a Business; 2) Nurture and Grow; 3) Master and Sustain

    The welcome period is a sensitive and often defining time that may have a marked effect as the programme unfolds. Católica Porto Business School pays particular attention to this moment and sets clearly defined targets for it: welcoming, introducing and integrating students in the School and in the programme’s ambitions.

    The purpose of homogenisation is to ensure that participants – with wide-ranging educational and professional backgrounds – are equipped with a set of concepts and techniques that make up a common denominator which is a sine qua non for the knowledge acquisition process in the field of management.



    Entrepreneurship can be described as a search for alternatives – or business models – to meet a latent demand. Conceptually, and from a purely economic point of view, it is a process of trial and error to achieve more effective solutions, i.e., solutions that bring us closer to the frontier of production possibility or that lead to its expansion. The essential management tools for an entrepreneur in these circumstances are metrics to measure efficiency and the creation and distribution of value. In essence, it is the language of business.



    The international week in Germany will be carried out in partnership with the German-Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The latter will organise a roadshow focusing on visits to companies based in different parts of Germany and operating in different sectors so that students can become acquainted with the country’s different realities.

    Germany is a highly competitive business location with many different facets that need to be understood:

    • A regional structure with its particular economic strengths (partly driven by historical reasons);
    • The importance of medium-sized companies, often perceived as the backbone of German economy;
    • Regionalisation (i.e.,16 federal states enjoying a high degree of self-government);
    • The constructive cooperation between employers / efficiently organised business associations and strong unions;
    • Public/private cooperation in the field of  research and development, which represents a huge boost for innovation;
    • Close collaboration in the educational system, including the dual system of vocational training designed to provide the market with qualified human resources in alignment with companies’ needs.

    ...these and many other aspects that are crucial to German economy will be discussed with a number of selected experts during the Week spent in Germany.



    Improving the business model becomes a natural step when the value proposition goes beyond the limits of ideas, withstands the market test and when the need to tackle a complex organization becomes apparent. This involves understanding the interactions that take place in the multiple markets in which the company operates and gaining better knowledge of its inner “self” by setting up a system to collect and process information that is consistent with its value proposition – i.e., business ethics, if the latter is understood as a profound reflection on the creation and distribution of the value for which the company exists.



    Once an efficient scale of production and an appropriate risk distribution have been achieved, the company focuses on ensuring business continuity without neglecting strategic risks. These may make the company feel the need to readjust and – in periods of great turmoil – reinvent itself to meet a new paradigm. The purpose of this module is to think beyond the company and the nearest time and space. The challenge now is to ensure the sustainability of the company in the face of a change (or threat of change) of context. We should be capable of testing emerging discussions based upon a trial and error logic.

    International Week at Esade – Barcelona – SEPTEMBER

    In line with the aim of providing international exposure to MBA students, the last week of the Executive MBA will be spent at ESADE, which has been a partner of Católica Porto Business School for many years. The week in Barcelona places emphasis on a company’s overall situation. The aim is to provide students with an interactive experience that incorporates the most relevant concepts of Strategic Management in a business simulation game monitored by the ESADE faculty, who will help them to look at the different business options from a strategic standpoint.

    The concept behind Clube de Empresas (Business Club) is that business schools are knowledge “accelerators”, due to their capacity to study and systematise business practices and experiences. Clube de Empresas was planned to interface between the university and the business world and to serve as a platform for multiple projects linked by a common element: the engagement of companies in training and development programmes for the management aimed at getting better prepared professionals.

    Clube de Empresas is made up of 19 companies that will secure study visits, contact sessions with CEOs, participation in the MBA’s Advisory Board, participation in seminars and supply of case studies to support the projects of some of the programme’s modules.     Soft Skills

    Managers stand out more and more by their ability to expand their sensitive side in topics that are complementary to a more technical dimension – the so-called soft skills – and to look at their dreams and trajectories, personal and professional, from a critical standpoint.

    While attending the programme, students will also take part in several Career Sessions led by the Careers and Development department and offered on an optional basis. The Executive MBA students will be able to attend (4) different workshops on career development and on how to communicate effectively with the market. The main goals are as follows:

    • Create and optimise a CV according to career goals;Structure impacting cover letters and emails;
    • Create a profile on LinkedIn and learn how to use this business networking site;
    • Optimise strategies to proactively seek opportunities;
    • Prepare for recruitment procedures, more specifically for job interviews;
    • Develop communication skills, in particular pitching.



    Icone Avaliação 360An MBA is naturally aimed at developing students’ technical skills. Personal development, however, is another major aim. Hence, the 360-degree assessment carried out in the beginning and at the end of Católica Porto Business School’s Executive MBA programme as a means of rendering the outcome of the programme more tangible. This assessment is intended to develop social and interpersonal skills. This 360-degree diagnosis (“My leadership”) helps participants to know themselves better and provides access to one session of bespoke coaching.




    Tutorial Monitoring

    An MBA is a general programme that covers the different areas of management. The Executive MBA will therefore include, in addition to its Scientific Director, a team of lecturers in Operations Management, Strategy and Innovation, Finance, Human Capital and Marketing. They will be responsible for coordinating content in each field of knowledge and will work with Clube de Empresas (Business Club) to decide which case studies are to be applied in the different modules. It will also ensure tutorial monitoring to students throughout the programme.

    The Bootcamp in Social Entrepreneurship is an intensive 2-day training during which students are given the opportunity to work as a team and develop the concept and design of new entrepreneurial initiatives or to redesign existing impacting initiatives by defining business models and implementation plans.
    The purpose is to (re)build sustainable models identified by participants to tackle social and/or environmental issues at their root.

    At the end of their training, participants will have a guideline for designing Social Entrepreneurship projects applicable to any new ideas that they may have in the future. They will also emerge from the bootcamp with renewed energy and a new perspective which are essential for actions on the ground.

    IES-SBS Bootcamp will:

    1. Equip the Executive MBA students with Social Entrepreneurship tools;
    2. Ensure that the identification process of societal problems is done in the best possible way and that the solutions proposed are innovative and are to have a real impact, with scalability, in the future;
    3. Increase awareness on the importance and need for impact businesses;
    4. Promote the voluntary involvement and joint responsibility of students as well as the search for new answers for existing challenges turning to creativity and innovation and using the available resources in an effective way;
    5. Allow the incorporation of solutions in the business world by identifying opportunities in the value chain of companies.

    I decided to do the MBA for the same reasons as any other individual would – exclusively for professional reasons. Coming from a totally different field of expertise, the MBA offered me what is most looked for in labour market today – to differentiate myself and to differentiate the service that I provided. As a holder of a degree in law and working in that area, which due to its complexity focuses significantly on the technical component, I saw the MBA as a way to broaden horizons and develop other technical skills that would bring me closer to those I was providing services to.

    The fact is that the MBA has enabled me to achieve those goals and acquire those technical capacities (today I am able to talk to CFOs, business managers, and marketeers without having the feeling that we speak different languages), but it also went far beyond the scope I had initially assigned to it.
