The main objective of the MSc in Marketing is to guarantee the link between the theories and model taught and the reality of the problems in today´s marketing activities. Thus, we tend to use empirical teaching approach as much as possible, along with case studies. We have developed a pragmatic approach, which motivates students to produce useful research.

Our MSc programme also attempts to strengthen the relationship between the university and companies. Thus, we have some teachers who are active in companies, and other national or International organisations.

Our approach to the training of highly qualified professionals is at the heart of the value added to our programme and it is the reason why we ensure a high employability rate and successful career to our future graduates.

The MSc in Marketing will be conducted entirely in English.

The skills attained during the course will either contribute to the development of a professional career in a company or to an academic career in any of the Marketing fields of study.

The Masters in Marketing will work with a daytime group and, if needed, in a post-work regime one, as well.

The calendar which schedules all classes is announced to the students at the beginning of each semester. 

In the case of courses taught by invited professors a concentration of classes may occur in only a few days, but with a more intensive schedule. In these circumstances classes will be scheduled well in advance, allowing time to take the necessary measures.

In the daytime regime classes are from Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 18:30 and Saturday from 9:00 to 13:00.

Attendance Regimes

The Masters at the Católica Porto Business School has a single, but flexible attendance regime. The curriculum is designed so that the programme has a minimum of three semesters (one year and a half). However, for students who wish to obtain a Masters degree while maintaining their professional activity, you can perform the Masters within a maximum of 5 semesters (two and a half years), which allows you to distribute the academic load over an extended thus conciliating the schedules and professional load with the Masters. The beginning and end of semesters are published annually in the academic calendar of the 2nd cycle of the Católica Porto Business School (see Academic Calendar).



All subjects may be taught in English, depending on the number of foreign students.

Entry Requirements

Graduates from different scientific areas can apply to the Masters of the Católica Porto Business School.

The application process to the Masters of the Católica Porto Business School must contain elements that provide evidence of the academic and scientific competence of the candidates, as well as the command of the English language. The GMAT test is valued in the selection process to assess the academic and scientific skills

Applicants will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • Academic and scientific curriculum
  • Degree classification
  • Professional experience or research

English language competence requirement

Proof of this requirement is made through an official level B2 diploma of The Council of Europe’s Common European Framework of References for Languages, or equivalent.

Admitted students who do not meet the English language proficiency requirement have access to a diagnostic test available at the Católica Porto Business School in the respective application stage.

The English diagnostic test is an examination equivalent to level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference (upper-intermediate) .The test lasts for approximately 3 hours and the structure of the exam aims to assess the following skills: Listening Comprehension, Grammar, Vocabulary, Reading and Writing. For a better insight into the structure of the diagnostic test, model tests may be consulted on the website of Cambridge Michigan and the candidates may select the test that corresponds to the ECCE - Examination for the Certificate of Competence in English.

Homogenisation Modules

The graduates in different fields of economics and management may be required attendance and approval in intensive base preparation courses in these areas - Homogenisation Modules. These courses are offered by the Católica Porto Business School in August / September, during the weeks preceding the start of the lessons. It is recommended, therefore, to the Applicants under these conditions that use one of the first two stages of application since the third phase will not allow access to Homogenisation modules.

The Programme Direction meets three times a year to assess the applications: March, July and September. After this meeting, candidates are informed of the decision and the next steps.

Documentation for the Application Process

*Certificates must specify the courses taken, their assessment and ECTS, and the final grade of the course. If you have not completed a degree, you must present a certificate of the courses taken, their assessment and ECTS, and the current average.

  • Applicants who held a degree in a foreign country must submit the certificate of qualifications: a) legalised by Portuguese diplomatic or consular authority, or b) with the Hague Apostille issued by the competent authority of the issuing country, if that country has acceded the Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Acts (the Hague Conference).
  • When the documents are written in a foreign language other than Spanish, English or French, the respective translation is due which, in the case of the certificate of qualifications, must be made pursuant to the notarial law.

Full-Time Programme

  • Submitting the application: Free
  • Acceptance and enrolment in the Masters: € 625. The fee will not be refunded in case students cancel their enrolment.
  • 1st year fees (curricular part: 60 ECTS): 10 instalments of €531
  • 2nd year fees (dissertation, project or internship: 36 ECTS): 5 instalments of €637,20

NB: These values are calculated in accordance with the fees established for the academic year 2019/20

Merit Scholarships

The Board of the Católica Porto Business School decided to create a set of Scholarships for the purpose of rewarding the merit of the students whose academic performance deserves it. These consist in total exemption from tuition fees up to a maximum of 36 ECTS per semester and also from the enrolment and tuition fees.

Candidates are eligible for scholarship if they have an enrolment average of at least 16,0 points from a Portuguese University or a GMAT score of at least 650 points.

The merit scholarships can be renewed each semester. The eligibility criteria for the award of scholarship in the 2nd and 3rd semester master are:

  • Completion of a minimum of 30 ECTS per semester with no failures in the normal or resit assessment period.
  • Weighted average of the marks obtained in all the subjects concluded in the previous semester to the award of the scholarship equal to or greater than 16.0 values.

Students who complete the degree in a foreign higher education institution will only be eligible for scholarship award if they present a GMAT with a score of at least 650 points.

Social Scholarships

There are Social Scholarships to support the payment of fees: Scholarships from the Higher Education General Directorate ( and Social Scholarships of the Catholic University of Portugal.
