The European Operations Management Association (EurOMA) awarded Rui Soucasaux Sousa with the Honorary Fellow distinction. EurOMA is the leading European scientific association in Operations Management. The award recognizes Rui Sousa’s contribution to research and education in Operations Management, as well as the service provided to the association and to the scientific community in Operations Management in Europe. The distinction was awarded to Rui Sousa on the 17th of June 2019 by the President of EurOMA, Giovanni Perrone, during the 26th Annual EurOMA Conference in Helsinki, Finland. During its history and to date, the award was given to 17 reputed scholars, with Rui Sousa being the first Portuguese national to receive it.
Rui Sousa was a member of the EurOMA Board for six years, coordinating the education and conferences activities for the association. In 2010, he was the Chair of the annual conference of EurOMA and, in 2015, he organized the EurOMA Summer School, both in the Católica Porto Business School. Rui Sousa is regularly involved in the training of doctoral students, namely as a lecturer in the EurOMA Doctoral Seminar and at the EDEN Seminar in Research Methodology in Operations Management (European Institute of Advanced Studies in Management).
